‘There was just such a sadness I felt’

Sen. Lisa Murkowski on her career, via the Homer News:

Considering her options, Murkowski thought about finishing her term, returning to Alaska and finding a new direction. “I’ve got good earning potential, I’m still relatively young, and if I want to set my sights on a Senate seat in four years or the governor’s office in four years, I can do that, but every time I processed the option of just stepping back, there was just such a sadness I felt that I was failing to listen to the people who were asking me to offer them a choice,” said Murkowski. “But I started listening to what Alaskans were saying. We can do it. We should do it. We will do it for Alaska.”

Oh, and about that committee post?

“I have the seniority of eight years on the Appropriations Committee and am the most senior member on the Energy Committee. That is something nobody else can offer,” Murkowski said. “The other thing I have to offer is that I have a proven track record in consensus building. Yes, I’m on the Republican side, but I have been working to build alliances with the other side, as well, to get things done. … That is something Miller not only cannot do, but has stated he will not do. He has stated we should not be crossing the aisle, that it is compromising principles and I positively disagree.”
