I find this op-ed in the Washington Post today completely depressing. To seemingly not realize that part of the portrait of her father she wants to display is his living, breathing, producing daughter…and to think that reminding a mother that children are a remarkable blessing and raising good ones a great achievement is but an attempt to put women in their place…is unfortunate. And an insult to people who make admirable and necessary sacrifices for their loved ones.
“What are you doing with your talents and God-given gifts?” is an excellent question. And everyone should be encouraged to ask it, and often. But putting down people who make sacrifices and choices prioritizing things for the sake of their family isn’t cool and it’s a fallback position way too often among people who frequently wind up on the op-ed pages of our nation’s newspapers.
