As Jim notes over on the Campaign Spot, there is a new Quinnipiac poll showing Steve Lonegan within 9 points of Chris Christie in the GOP gubernatorial primary — last month, he trailed by 22 points. The lesser-known Lonegan, a former mayor of Bogota, ties Democratic Gov. Jon Corzine in the same survey, 41-41. Christie beats Corzine, 45-38. Christie, a former U.S. Attorney, has been beaten up a bit this month on ethics issues. A typical example is here.
The same poll shows that the economy is just killing Corzine, with 58 percent disapproving of his handling thereof, but he dominates the Democratic primary right now and is almost certain to be the nominee. The primary is June 2.
