A reader says that Czech artist don’t know squat when it comes to the uniqueness of Bulgar toilets:
Mr. Cerny is mistaken, Spain also has its fair share of “squat-thrust” toilets, though they are no longer the norm for new construction. I stayed in a pension in Córdoba, ancient capitol of Al Andalus just blocks away from the old Grand Masque (now Catholic cathedral) of Córdoba, and the convenience there was of the Bulgar/Turkish/Levantine sort*. Make what you will of its proximity to the mosque.
This Córdoba is clearly not the same as the Ricardo Montalban Córdoba, where any en suite bath would have seats with the thickly cushioned luxury of soft Coreeenthian leather.
(*By the way, they are at Gitmo, too.)
