‘They Don’t Want Compromise’

Sen. John McCain (R., Ariz.) told CNN this morning that the American people want Republicans to stand firm as the debt-ceiling deadline nears. “They don’t want compromise,” he said. “The principle of not raising taxes is something that we campaigned on last November.” A short-term “meltdown,” he argued, would not be “nearly as bad as the meltdown we’re facing unless we get our deficit under control.”
