The Post had an editorial on immigration Thursday that is best described as unhinged. (Full disclosure: it badmouths my shop, though anonymously as “an anti-illegal-immigrant think tank.”) It’s the usual tripe, but with a tone that’s almost hysterical — “xenophobes,” “vigilantism,” “cruel,” “toxic,” “intensifying nativist zeal,” “venomous,” “pernicious,” “ferocity of the demagogues” — I don’t know if Roget has any adjectives left. It’s a good sign, though — if Gandhi was right that “First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win”, well, we’re making real progress!
