Third Arrest Made in Fast and Furious Murder of Brian Terry

Mexican police have arrested a third suspect wanted for the murder of U.S. Border Patrol agent Brian Terry, who was killed by criminals using guns provided by the U.S. government through Operation Fast and Furious, on Wednesday. Ivan Soto-Barraza was arrested as part of an operation between Mexican police, FBI, and Interpol.

Soto-Barraza is currently being held by Mexican authorities, and an Arizona U.S. marshal said that “it could be a while before he’s on U.S. soil” since Mexican citizens tend to resist extradition proceedings if they are wanted for criminal charges in the U.S., according to the Arizona Republic.

Soto-Barraza is the third Mexican suspect wanted by American authorities for Terry’s death who’s been arrested, out of five bandits involved in the shootout. Manuel Osorio-Arellanes was arrested the night of the murder and Jesus Leonel Sanchez-Meza was arrested last year. Osorio-Arellanes pleaded guilty to murder as part of an agreement to avoid the death penalty and will be sentenced in December. Sanchez-Meza was arrested in September 2012 in Mexico and his extradition to the U.S. is pending.
