Third Way in Iraq

I guess it’s true that we Americans have no taste for imperialism. Reader

voting on my “Third Way In Iraq” piece is overwhelmingly

for the First Way.

Here’s a representative voice. I like the cut of this guy’s jib:

“Mr. Derbyshire—I’ll take door number 1, Monty. Let’s make it clear to

all the world that you sign your death warrant when you kill Americans. I

don’t care if it costs $10 billion a year for the next 50 years. Say it

quietly but firmly, and then do it. To paraphrase the Marines – ‘America –

no better friend, no worse enemy’. Use my name if you like. My opinions are

not a secret. Best regards, Donald M. MacQueen.”

John Derbyshire — Mr. Derbyshire is a former contributing editor of National Review.
