The thing most people forget about those Spanish elections is that Jose Maria Aznar, despite all evidence to the contrary, tried to blame the bombings on ETA, the Basque terrorist group. The polls all said that the Spanish people felt they were being lied to for political purposes and came out and voted against Aznar’s party and successor. It’s actually pretty hard to blame them for that.
