An email in response to my article: “So basically Kaine is accusing an Episcopalian of being a better Catholic than he is.”
I concentrated on Kaine’s dishonesty and, secondarily, his pomposity (the don’t-you-know-I’m-a-fancy-lawyer shtick he deploys in response to being called out). We have no reason to think that Gorsuch thinks that contraception is immoral. But what if Gorsuch did think that? Kaine’s argument assumes that anyone who agrees with the teaching of Kaine’s own church on contraception–indeed, anyone who has spoken in a way as to lead dimwitted people to think he agrees with that teaching–is hostile to women and therefore unfit for public office.
