With Obama now airing a stupid and very stereotypically negative ad on McCain’s age and the entire press corps working itself into a frenzy of hand-wringing of how negative the race is, it’s a great time for McCain to do more substance. As discussed in here often, he’s solid on energy; he has a health care plan, he just needs to talk about it more; and on taxes, with Palin saying on the stump that McCain wants to cut everyone’s taxes, it’s a good moment to give that impulse greater substance with more middle-class tax relief. Palin has been tremendous insulation for McCain on the charge that he’s “out of touch”; a substantive agenda addressing everyday economic concerns would give him even more.
