Tina Brown ‘Celebrates’ Five-Year Anniversary of Tea Party

Tina Brown dug up an old Newsweek cover from the magazine’s currently defunct print edition to celebrate the five-year anniversary of the Tea Party; or, as she calls the movement’s supporters, “wingnuts.”

The August 2011 cover featuring Representative Michele Bachmann received criticism for its unflattering image of the Minnesota Republican.

Brown joined the Newsweek company in 2010 when it merged with the Daily Beast. In the merger, she became the editor-in-chief of both publications. During her tenure, Newsweek ceased print publication at the end of 2012 and shifted to an all-digital format due to costs and dropping subscription and advertising revenue. After IBT Media acquired the magazine last year, the company announced it would relaunch Newsweek’s print edition on March 7 of this year.

Brown announced in September that she was leaving the company to start her own venture, Tina Brown Media.
