Tired Tropes (Cont.)

Endless email on my suggestion–make that DEMAND–that the “X is the new Y” figure be permanently retired. “Bush is the new Nixon,” says one reader. (Didn’t Dick Morris write a column proving that Bush is, in fact, the new Carter?) On gas prices, several to the effect: “$4.00 is the new $1.87.” Iran the new Iraq, Tom’n’Kate the new Burton’n’Taylor, etc. Enough already.
