According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are 2.8 million fewer jobs in the United States today than when you took office.
Until the May jobs numbers were released on Friday, the media and your administration had been touting the increasing number of jobs created this year. Indeed, so far this year approximately 742,000 jobs have been added, or around 148,000 per month. But because current population increases – not including illegal immigration — would cause approximately 150,000 new workers to enter the job market each month (if there were, in fact, jobs for them), the number of individuals who are unemployed remains, at best, static.
What non-stimulus measures have you taken to increase the labor participation rate? What additional measures do you plan to take this term? Do any of them involve reducing the cost of labor and/or rendering such costs relatively predictable?
