The Corner

Told You So

I’m at the beach, so following the news is not at the top of my to-do list. but Mickey Kaus has taunted us Corner-niks about our lack of comment on the most recent indication that McCain’s change of heart on immigration is entirely fictitious. The AP, ABC, and Michelle Malkin all reported this week McCain’s pledging to a closed-door gathering of Hispanics in Chicago that “comprehensive immigration reform” (amnesty) will be one of his highest priorities. One of Michelle’s readers who was at the meeting reported McCain as having said “If I am elected President I assure you that in 2009 I will ask Congress to pass Comprehensive Immigration Reform.” So, since he’s been saying that he’ll secure the border first before discussing amnesty, I guess this means either that he seriously expects to secure the border before the end of his first year in office, or he’s been lying all along.
