Tom Hanks on WWII Memorial Storming: ‘Good for the Veterans’

Actor Tom Hanks praised the World War II veterans who overcame the barricades blocking access to the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. earlier this week. He jokingly asked if they used helicopters, landing crafts, or “bust[ed] through in a jeep.”

“Good for the veterans,” he said in an interview. “Good, go see it. We should all have access to them all the time.”

Hanks added that he was “sorry that they didn’t have [access].”

Hanks is an avid WWII buff and helped fundraise for the WWII memorial. He has also worked on various film projects based on the war, including Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers, and The War.
