The Corner

The Trump Presser

It was as entertaining — and occasionally jaw-dropping (germaphobe is to 2017 what hands were to 2016) — as you’d expect. On the election-related hacking, Trump finally admitted the Russians did it, but used the approach of Reince Priebus on Sunday, which was to change the subject to the more congenial aspects of the hacking story as quickly as possible. On the dossier, Trump vehemently denied it and seemed credible in his account of how aware he is of vulnerabilities in foreign hotel rooms. One thing I didn’t understand: He repeatedly seemed to blame the intelligence agencies for writing and disseminating the dossier, when one of the many weaknesses of the document is that it wasn’t drafted by intelligence.
