Trump’s Strike

I’m not a fan of pinprick military strikes, but I welcome what appears to be the Trump administration’s more clear-eyed view of Russia and the nature of the Syrian conflict. This re-orientation seems to have occurred over the course of about 48 hours, so we’ll see if it sticks and it obviously it needs to be thought through. If last night isn’t going to be just a blip, the administration needs a strategy to defeat al-Qaeda and ISIS, squeeze out Russia and Iran to the extent possible, and pressure the Assad regime enough that some diplomatic settlement becomes possible. Needless to say, all of this will be much easier said than done.
