The Russian Question

If the Reince Priebus interview on “Fox News Sunday” is any indication, Team Trump is crabwalking its way toward accepting the intelligence on the Russian interference in the election, but trying to minimize it and change the subject as quickly as possible. Just as a matter of politics, it seems a mistake to continue to be so defensive about this. I continue to be mystified why Trump can’t say something like, “I now believe that the Russians did interfere in our election and am appalled by it. I won the election fair and square because I had a more compelling message than Hillary Clinton, but we shouldn’t tolerate a foreign power trying to meddle in our internal affairs. I want a more productive relationship with Russia, and will work very hard to forge one, but this gets us off on the wrong foot.”
