I’m a sucker for a parade, pretty much any parade. It doesn’t matter if it’s a couple of guys in antique cars with some flags on Main Street on July 4 or Rolling Thunder. So I understand why Trump would have been taken with the Bastille Day parade, which must be a truly extraordinary national spectacle. If Trump didn’t go out of his way to sound as threatening as possible to the other side — i.e., his “un-American” riff from earlier this week — maybe more people would realize that a display of military hardware is not counter to the American tradition and doesn’t represent a risk to the republic. But this is the world we live in. Like David below, I fear #theresistance would try to disrupt a military parade in Washington, but otherwise, I’m quite confident that I’d enjoy it.
