Trump’s Spokeswoman Spent October Touting Gowdy’s Nonexistent Speaker Bid

Before Katrina Pierson became Donald Trump’s national spokeswoman in November, she was spokeswoman for the Tea Party Leadership Fund.

As our former colleague Betsy Woodruff remembered, in October, Pierson was sending out e-mails urging people to donate to the group so they could help make Rep. Trey Gowdy the next Speaker of the House.

The e-mails not only ignored the fact that Gowdy repeatedly insisted he didn’t want to be Speaker of the House; they didn’t give any sense of how donating to the group would help make Gowdy the next Speaker. (It’s not like candidates for speaker need to run television ads.) What’s more, the messages made it sound like the Gowdy-for-Speaker was on the verge of success.

Boehner’s attempt to play kingmaker and set up his establishment trainees as his successors is failing – our grassroots activism to DRAFT GOWDY is working!

The latest blow: Boehner was forced to delay other leadership votes to protect his pals from losing, AND thanks to you…they might!

[Name], will you join us, 140,000 tea partiers, and the growing surge of commonsense conservative leaders like Mia Love with her call to draft Rep. Gowdy into leadership? Sign your Draft Trey Gowdy for Speaker Petition today!

Time is critical, the vote to determine the next Speaker of the House is Oct. 8th — in JUST THREE DAYS!

[Name], I need your personalized petition – will you take just 60 seconds to stop and fill one out?

We must Draft Trey Gowdy at that vote, and stop Boehner from installing his establishment clones.

And after you’ve signed, please make an urgent, critically important contribution of $25, $50, or even $100 or more to ensure the Tea Party Leadership Fund has the resources to flex our collective grassroots might, seize the momentum and expand our unprecedented campaign to secure a rock-solid Republican at the head of the pack.

“It has to be real effort to make Gowdy the next Speaker! They have a graphic and everything!”

Ultimately, the group gave $2,000 to Gowdy. The Tea Party Leadership Fund took in $598,687 last year.

Gowdy is endorsing Rubio, and Trump sent out four retweets Sunday night, criticizing Gowdy and calling him a “loser.”

Perhaps this is what campaigns require in politics in 2015, an ability to emphatically insist that something that isn’t happening is actually happening, in the face of all evidence.
