I would have preferred for Republicans to have spent more time on this reconciliation bill — there was no rush to pass it before July 4, and a lot to improve in it. But now that it has passed, this is looking like the most successful first year for a Republican presidential term since . . . 1981? So far, the economy is doing fine (even if that is partly because Trump backed off the worst of his tariffs). Just off the top of my head, Trump has made substantial headway on taxes, DEI, immigration, energy, education, NATO, and Iran. And he’s not even through a half year.
