Turkish PM Erdogan: Zionism Is ‘a Crime Against Humanity’ Like ‘Anti-Semitism or Fascism’

Yesterday Turkish prime minister Tayyip Erdogan made this comparison at the opening of the U.N. Alliance of Civilizations Global Forum, a United Nations event on improving dialogue between the West and the Middle East:

We should be striving to better understand the culture and beliefs of others, but instead we see that people act based on prejudice and exclude others and despise them. And that is why it is necessary that we must consider – just like Zionism or anti-Semitism or fascism — Islamophobia as a crime against humanity.

Nothing improves relations with the West like returning to and escalating the old accusation that “Zionism is racism.” U.N. secretary general Ban Ki-Moon has yet to condemn Erdogan’s remarks.
