Regardless of everything else — and there’s a lot that falls under “everything else” — there are two things I will always admire about Chris Christie, both from when he was governor of New Jersey.
The first is this clip from a town hall where, after shrill protesters are escorted out by police, he carefully explains at length to a public-school teacher exactly how public-sector unions are bankrupting the state government:
You’ll have a hard time finding any politician capable of explaining that problem as clearly as Christie did, right to a teacher telling a sob story.
The second is this incident when he got in an argument with a voter . . . on Election Day . . . at a polling place:
The crux of his displeasure? He doesn’t have the power to do what she wanted. He encourages her to run for local office instead of whining to him. More politicians should respond that way instead of pretending that every concern from everyone is important.
