Obama’s Illinois mentor, Emil Jones, is the kind of public servant who studiously avoids even the appearance of propriety.

Obama gave Jones a last-minute shot at a convention speech last night. People are focusing on how he nearly blew it with his “Uncle Tom” remarks. I focus instead on the laughable remarks that Jones made on Illinois ethics reform. Soon, he will retire, and thanks to the Illinois ethics bill he let Obama play on in 1998, he will be able to roll $578,000 from his campaign account into his personal bank account.
