Did Al Gore just condemn the 19th-century War with Mexico? You know, the one that brought California, Arizona, New Mexico, etc., into the Union?
Gore said that Abraham Lincoln “showed courage and wisdom to oppose the invasion of another country in a war that was popular when it started but later condemned by history.” Courage? Maybe. Wisdom? I’m far from convinced. Condemned by history? As it should be, Gore seems to have said.
In my view, the great failing of the war was that the United States didn’t take more territory when it had the chance. Baja California should be the 51st state.
These days, some people talk about the reconquista. Gore apparently is for the unconquista.
