Roger Scruton is muscling in on my turf. Feugh!
He gives us Schopenhauer half way through the second paragraph already. I held off mentioning the old boy for a masterly 150 pages, and then only borrowed one quote. (The second one here.)
I suppose I should look on the slightly-less-dark side, though. The world can never have enough pessimists. Having done my humble bit to popularize the outlook, I guess I should be glad to see an intellectual heavyweight joining our glum company. Perhaps I can be Scruton’s bulldog.
(Although if I am to be, I had better finish one of his books first.)
