Union Issue

From a new Gallup poll on the auto bailout:

  • 43 percent of respondents believe the unions deserve a ‘great deal’ of blame for the failure of the auto bailout
  • The percentage assigning a ‘great deal’ of blame to unions is UP nine points from a Gallup poll released a week ago today (which showed 34 percent blaming unions for the trouble in the auto industry), while blame for the auto executives remained steady (64 percent now, 65 percent last week)
  • More Independents assign the blame to unions (41) than to Republicans (29) or Democrats (21)
  • Independents, Republicans on the same side: ‘Most Democrats support the auto bailout, while most Republicans and half of independents oppose it’
  • 47 percent of respondents wanted the bill to pass, 31 percent oppose bailouts, 14 percent opposed this bailout, but might support a different form of assistance to automakers
