Unlucky Day

It’s just our luck to have a Friday the 13th for two months in a row. For the last one, we posted a symposium on superstitions, with contributions from Rick Brookhiser (who reads fortune cookies), Stephen Hunter (the salt thing), T. Jefferson Parker (a tennis ritual), Matthew Pearl (black cats–give ‘em a break), Harry Turtledove (bread kissing), and others.

John J. Miller, the national correspondent for National Review and host of its Great Books podcast, is the director of the Dow Journalism Program at Hillsdale College. He is the author of A Gift of Freedom: How the John M. Olin Foundation Changed America.
