The IAEA has found that Iran has accelerated its enrichment activity. This shouldn’t surprise, given all the reporting in the Iranian press. What is unfortunate, if accurate, are Undersecretary of State Nicholas Burns’ comments , as reported in the New York Times:
In a telephone interview, R. Nicholas Burns, the undersecretary of state for policy, who is implementing the Iran strategy, said that while he has not heard about the I.A.E.A.’s newest findings, they would not affect American policy.
When administrations are so invested in the success of diplomatic initiatives that they discount evidence of failure, it always leads to failure. Nicholas Burns is repeating the mistakes of Warren Christopher and Madeleine Albright.
