Unthinking Progress

I’m not really surprised by this, but Think Progress is completely mischaracterizing something I wrote with regard to Obama’s SCOTUS pick, Sonia Sotomayor: “These attacks started even before Sotomayor was named. The National Review’s Mark Hemingway earlier said that Sotomayor was ‘dumb and obnoxious.’” That’s highly misleading. I never “attacked” Sotomayor. I was only characterizing what Jeffrey Rosen wrote in his blistering New Republic piece on Sotomayor, where among other damning things, Rosen quoted someone saying Sotomayor was “not that smart and kind of a bully on the bench.” That should have been obvious in relation to the Rosen passage I was commenting on, and in case it wasn’t, I further clarified the matter, noting “I was only characterizing what Rosen had written about her, not expressing a personal opinion.” It would be nice if they corrected this, but I’m not holding my breath.

And while we’re at it, it’s been a month since I responded in detail to something Media Matters wrote about me and it’s been nothing but crickets . . .
