Update on the GZ mosque debate

Last weekend, I noted that Roger Kimball had responded to a thoughtful post by Rod Radosh at Pajamas regarding conservative opposition to the Ground Zero mosque and the general tenor of the discussion about “moderate Islam.” Ron has since updated his thoughts. I appreciate his kind words and his point that being against the GZ mosque is not being anti-Muslim. To be anti-Islamist is actually to favor religious liberty, including for authentic moderate Muslims who want to embrace Western principles.

Also worth your while if you have the time this weekend is this very interesting symposium at Frontpage about whether there really is a moderate Islam and what the severe obstacles are to reform — not least, the mainstream Islamic view that any departure from core tenets of Islam is apostasy, for which sharia prescribes a death sentence.
