The Use of Comic Books

Suleiman Bakhit is a Jordanian entrepreneur. He is the son of a prime minister. Though still young, Bakhit has led a highly interesting and eventful life. Finding that Arab kids thought of heroes as men like bin Laden and Zarqawi, he started a line of comic books, to give them a different idea of heroism. He has very interesting things to say about an old and important theme: shame and honor.

For his troubles, he was slashed in the face by men who wielded razor blades. These men were trying to mark him with shame. It is with them that shame rests, of course.

Bakhit is a guest of the Oslo Freedom Forum, and I spoke with him for a Q&A podcast. To listen to it, go here.
