The GOP primaries in California and Nevada will receive a ton of attention today and tomorrow, but I’m keeping a close watch on the one here in Virginia’s 11th congressional district. For years, the seat was held by Tom Davis, a moderate Republican. In 2008, without Davis on the ballot, Democratic Gerry Connolly captured it. Two conservatives, Keith Fimian and Pat Herrity, are now vying for the right to take on Connolly during what is traditionally an incumbent’s most vulnerable cycle: his first re-election. I’m planning to vote tomorrow, but I still haven’t entirely made up my mind about which candidate to support. I have a soft spot for Fimian because he records videos in which it is possible to see a copy of Nearer, My God by WFB on the bookshelf behind him. But he also lost to Connolly two years ago and it wasn’t especially close (55 percent to 43 percent). Herrity may in fact be more electable in November.
