This VA Blunder

I actually believe that there’s room for considerable reform of the VA. But charging vets for medical care for injuries received in service to the country seems like a pretty egregious place to start and politically it’s just beyond malpractice. Like Geraghty and the guys Ace of Spades, I just assumed this was a stupid trial balloon by someone out of the loop. But apparently Obama actually wants to do this, or is open to it. And that’s bizarre. Here Obama is talking about spending hundreds of billions of dollars to pay for civilian healthcare — for the able-bodied — but wants to raise a “mere” half a billion by soaking wounded vets. What can he be thinking?

Update: That’s one explanation –  from a reader:

“somebody put that VA proposal on his telemprompter, so it became policy…”
