One aspect of their tax-hike scheme strikes me as especially outrageous: “The plan includes a novel idea: letting residents save their gas receipts and request a full rebate for the tax from the state twice a year. The plan relies on the assumption that only about half of those who are eligible for rebates would request them.” The pols, no doubt, will tell voters about how they approved a tax rebate–but not that they’ve made it so cumbersome to obtain that nobody even knows how to get it.
