Vacation’s Over

This sounds pretty bad to walk into; from an e-mail:

Unfortunately for me, the annual meeting of NOW this year is at my hotel in Nashville. I had to come up the stairway and through a backdoor to get to my office because they were clogging up the lobbies.

I don’t know why I get blessed with these things at times of breaking news. My wife and I vacationed in DC for the first time in 1991 and that week the Clarence Thomas hearings were heating up big time (high tech lynching and all) so we watched that unfold.

Now I’m in a hotel with hundreds of NOW members and Sandra O’Connor announces her retirement. Here come the news trucks to get some interviews and talk to Kim Gandy (?). And these women were wired…I mean wired upon hearing this. They are really agitated and you could hear them murmuring, “gotta keep our right to choose” and “can’t let that Bush a-hole pick a judge”, and the like.
