John Adams has a funny line about the vice presidency: “My country has in its wisdom contrived for me the most insignificant office that ever the invention of man contrived or his imagination conceived.”

Does anybody know whether this line, or something close to it, was spoken in the recent HBO miniseries on Adams? I didn’t see the show and don’t have a clue — but am curious to know. Write me at nrorocks – at – yahoo.com.
