The Virginia Ballot

The Virginia GOP primary is as good an illustration of the problem facing conservatives in this election as any. Only two candidates have qualified for the ballot, Ron Paul and Mitt Romney. Neither Newt Gingrich nor Rick Perry met the party’s requirements of 10,000 signatures in support of the petition.  And Rick Santorum and Michele Bachmann will also be off the ballot, either because they did not submit enough signatures or because they did not even submit a petition in the first place. So Romney and Paul are the choices for Virginia voters. The remaining candidates — who are all more conservative than Romney and less wacky or dangerous than Paul (go ahead, Paul supporters, fire away) – simply did not have their act together enough to get on the ballot.
