Senator David Vitter is now vying to become Governor Vitter. The two-term Louisiana Republican announced he would run for governor of the state in 2015 in an e-mail to supporters.

In a video, Vitter highlighted his work while serving as senator, as well as outlined his goals were he to become governor, including focusing on education and tax reform. “This will be my last political job, elected or appointed, period, so my only agenda will be to do what’s best for all Louisianans,” he said.

With current governor Bobby Jindal term-limited, Vitter is the biggest name so far in the race to succeed him when he leaves office. Baton Rouge’s Advocate reports that Vitter can run for the state’s chief executive without giving up his Senate seat.

It’s early, but a November poll gave Vitter a significant edge over his closest opponent in the state’s “jungle primary,” although nearly one-fourth of respondents were undecided.
