The Corner

W in 2005

Remember this? ” All who live in tyranny and hopelessness can know: the United States will not ignore your oppression, or excuse your oppressors. When you stand for your liberty, we will stand with you.” This address tonight was obviously a logical and practical and useful close to the series of speeches on Iraq and the war on terror the president has been given in recent weeks. But it also strikes me as a logical 2005 closer. Remember his second inaugural address, just this year? All that noble talk of freedom? Well we liberated Iraq, we stand by the people of Iraq rebuilding their nation, and last week we watched them (and helped them) hit a major milestone. This freedom talk Bush talked in January was not just talk. It’s real. And we’re wise to stick with it.
