Coming amid a still-developing fraud scandal in Minnesota, Governor Tim Walz announced Monday that he will not run for reelection. “He is,” Charlie says on today’s edition of The Editors, “what people think of when they say they don’t like the Democrats.”
“He is somebody who picks up every trend going with great zeal and enthusiasm, however silly it might be,” Charlie says. “He is somebody who has bought into all of the academic ridiculousness that has come to hurt the Democratic Party. And he’s somebody who believes, and he was exhibiting this up until last week, that he can repudiate any criticism of him, of his party, of his state, and of his policies by saying either that Donald Trump is responsible for it, or inserting a buzzword.”
Jim agrees and points out that the media — which fawned over Walz — ignored what NR writers saw very quickly: “There was time for them to look at Tim Walz and come to the same conclusion that a whole bunch of us did. . . . This guy has got one scandal after another in his state government. Why are people thinking this guy is so great? But instead, the Democrats, the media, they fell in love. They convinced themselves that this guy was going to be great.”
“Yeah, the fact that he’s unimpressive is . . . why he was selected as vice presidential nominee,” says Noah. “So it shouldn’t be surprising that he’s uninspiring as a communicator and a leader.”
