War Vets Prefer Bush to Obama

A new poll finds that 65 percent of post-9/11 veterans consider George W. Bush a good commander-in-chief, but only 42 percent think the same of Obama.

The Washington Post/Kaiser Family Foundation poll found Bush received this favorable approval despite only half of veterans saying that the Iraq War was worth fighting. Of those who thought the Iraq War was worth fighting, 80 percent called Bush a good commander-in-chief. But even among those who thought Iraq was not worth fighting, 53 percent approved of Bush as the military’s highest leader. Of those who thought the Iraq War was not worth fighting, only 45 percent thought Obama was a good commander-in-chief compared with 40 percent of those who thought the Iraq War was worth fighting.

Obama’s overall approval rating among war veterans is only 32 percent.
