Warriors, Not Victims

Tom Donnelly on the all-too-common “soldier as victim” rhetoric. Well worth reading. It’s certainly a lot better than the “soldier as psychopath” rhetoric of forty years ago, but the idea that making sure they have health care benefits (always with an emphasis on psychiatric care) fully expresses our debt to America’s troops, or speaks to the character of their devotion and courage, can’t help but be demeaning. It’s one place where our new president could learn something from the man he beat in November.
