I had the privilege of joining some of my National Review colleagues last Friday for the 15th Annual Conference of Yale University’s Buckley Institute. There, I was joined by CNN’s Scott Jennings for a debate on whether the second Trump administration’s agenda is a conservative agenda. Scott took the pro side, I took the con; although Scott’s position was more or less “mostly,” and mine was “sometimes.”
Our general philosophical agreement notwithstanding, it was a friendly but still contentious exchange. Indeed, in my view, it was a fruitful one, and it left me far more sanguine about the future of the conservative movement in America than I was going into this contest.
