Vice President Joe Biden’s statement, in its entirety, following his hour-long meeting with Congressional leaders at the Capitol. No one else involved in the meeting would say much else.
As noted earlier, the latest offer from the White House is $6 billion in spending cuts, on top of the $4 billion already enacted as part of a two-week continuing resolution. A fair deal, they argue, because: $6 billion + $4 billion + $40 billion “already cut” in the current CR = $50 billion — half way to GOP’s “Pledge to America.”
$6 billion, by the way, is two months’ worth of interest on the stimulus package.
In the meantime, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R., Va.) said today that until Democrats come up with a concrete proposal, House Republicans will continue to cut spending at a rate of $2 billion per week.
