Weighty Matter

I promise I won’t do this all day. Another weight e-mail:

I live in Indy and the Danica story has been a big topic this week. Funny, but nobody ever talked about weight advantages when Janet Guthrie and Lyn St. James and Sarah Fisher were racing. The fact is, they weren’t the drivers/racers that Danica Patrick is.

The consensus on sports talk radio has been that the weight difference is most advantageous during qualifying when the driver is racing in clean air against only a clock. When there are 32 other cars on the track and traffic is heavy, the advantage is greatly diminished.

My opinion is that if this were such a huge advantage, guys like Roger Penske would have been recruiting women and small men for years.
