“Welcomed in Life and Protected in Law”

Ramesh, Bush’s words do not represent a specific endorsement of state bans on abortion. It’s a well-turned phrase that is intended to be a Rohrshach test for pro-lifers — meaning whatever they choose it to mean. (A federal law? A state law? Protected how exactly?) My point is that Thompson should not be held to a higher standard than any other politician.
