“Well-Behaved Women”

Weird testimony on the Hill yesterday.

Ms. Miller said investigative reporters “are required to be a little pushier than some sources or editors would like,” adding, “I’ve always been pushy.”

“Without these qualities, I don’t think you can be an effective reporter,” she added, “but it creates some tensions with editors, yes.”

Mr. Specter then asked Ms. Gordon of The Inquirer how editors dealt with such reporters. “Well-behaved women don’t change the world, so that’s something to consider,” Ms. Gordon said.

Maggie Thatcher did her part to change the world while being very much the lady. Regardless though, if Ms. Gordon’s quote can be used against the Miers nomination, might consider warming to it.
