Well Said

Iain, well said indeed on the disgusting Mr. Blair, but I think that you may have been too kind. It’s important to understand that even praise for Blair’s role in the war against Islamic extremism has to come with qualifications. Yes, I think that internationally, Blair has indeed done the right thing (at least for now, the degree of UK integration within the EU argued for by Blair would mean that Britain would no longer be a reliable US ally) and at considerable political risk, but domestically he has been a disaster.

If you had to sum up the Blair project in just a few words it has to be as a sustained attempt to dismantle the traditional British sense of identity, something he clearly finds both archaic and contemptible. Denigrate that identity, and that history, for long enough and you cannot be surprised if some in the more recently-arrived communities in Britain have proved so unwilling to integrate. Now this, of course, is very very far from being the only cause of the current crisis, but has it played a part? Yes.

Orwell, Huxley, and Us

To hear some people tell it, America entered a dystopia long before the coronavirus and measures undertaken to combat it altered everyday life almost to the point of unrecognizability.
